If you are eager to jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G 4.0 firmware or the iOS 4,
then here is the way to do it using Redsn0w 0.9.5 jailbreak tool. Just follow the steps given below correctly to easily jailbreak iPod Touch 2G 4.0 firmware ( iOS 4 ).
1. First download the iOS 4 .ipsw file from here.
2. Now update your iPod Touch 2G to iOS 4 manually.

Hi, do you HAVE to manually install iOS 4? Is just I’ve already installed it automatically by iTunes, and other methods using RedSn0w don’t mention having to install manually beforehand.
Yeah, dude, you should be fine with updating it in itunes and then jailbreaking.. a Manual install is itunes I believe

ummm, i cant find the .ipsw in the file i downloaded. i got a zip file and it just contains a bunch of .dmg .plist .dfu and other crap :/ where is the .ipsw???
itunes updated to iOS 4.0 automatically and redsn0w is asking for the .ipsw…..what do i do? :/

Trololo you have to save the whole folder into documents or somewhere and browse for the entire folder and select it
I have Windows 7 and the .ipsw file was located in C Drive> Users>User(Name)>AppData>Roaming>Apple Computer>iTunes>iPod Software Updates. Hope this helped.

I thought OS4 firmware is about multitasking? 2gen isn’t compatible with that.. I have Ipod touch 2nd gen OS 3.1.2.. It’s already jailbroken.. I want to try 4.0 but I’m not sure if it is safe..
