We have this sizzling news for our readers. The much expected untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 is here, in the form of Redsn0w 0.9.10b1. Hats-off to the Dev Team and the developer Pod2g. The latest Redsn0w provides an untethered jailbreak to iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 3rd generation, iPod touch 4th gen except for iOS devices based on the A5 chip, like the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
We are providing our readers with this walk through that is proposed for those who want to jailbreak and are using a stock iOS 5.0.1 installation. The directions are similar for both Mac and Windows and for all supported iOS hardware.
Before you start, it is important to note that you must already be running iOS 5.0.1 on your iDevice, as iOS 5.0 is not supported. If you are already using 5.0, update it instantly as it might cause a problem for you later. If you rely on unlocking then don’t forget to preserve the baseband using the newly released PwnageTool for iOS 5.0.1 or Redsn0w.
Update: There were some bugs in Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 and then Dev team released the 2nd beta version to fix those bugs. Here we are writing the tutorial using Redsn0w 0.9.10b2.
STEP 1: You will be required to download the following softwares:
- Download iTunes
Caution: Ultrasn0w and Gevey SIM unlockers, don’t upgrade through iTunes. You need a custom firmware that will preserve your baseband. You can use redsn0w and Pwnage tool both to create such a custom IPSW.
STEP 2: Back up all your data with iTunes or iCloud before you proceed.
STEP 3: Launch Redsn0w.
Note for Windows users: be sure to run Redsn0w in Administrator mode, this can be done with a right-click.
STEP 4: Connect the iOS device to the computer and then turn it off.
STEP 5: Launch Redsn0w and click on “Jailbreak”.
STEP 6: Now Make sure “Install Cydia” is checked and click on “Next”.
STEP 7: Put your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into DFU mode according to the on-screen instructions.
It is of significance to note that you DO NOT interrupt or use the computer during this time, when your iPhone is being jailbroken. Wait for it to reboot into an untethered state.
To make sure that this iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak worked, you will require to power off your iPhone and then merely power on your iPhone and wait for it to reboot itself. If your iPhone reboots into a working state then this untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak has been successful.
