Most of the iPod Touch 2G users have updated their firmwares to the new iOS 4.
But still if you want to quit the iOS 4 and downgrade your iPod Touch 2G to 3.1.3 firmware, then here is how to do it. Just do the steps given below to downgrade iPod Touch 2G to 3.1.3 firmware.
NOTE : This is a guide for Windows users. Also you should have the 3.1.3 firmware .ipsw file.
1. Open Notepad with administer privileges to start with the downgrade process.
2. Now open ” C > Windows > System32 > drivers > etc > hosts ” in notepad.
3. Now carefully add ” 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com ” at the bottom without changing anything else.
4. Save the file and close it.
5. Connect your iPod Touch 2G to the computer.
6. After iTunes detect it and sync to it, switch of the iPod Touch 2G.
7. Now press the Power button and Home button together for 10 seconds and take of your hand from the power button but still hold the Home button until a USB device recognition is shown by Windows.
8. Now when iTunes ask you to Restore your iPod Touch 2G, hold the Shift button and click on the ” Restore ” button.
9. Browse to the iPod Touch 2G 3.1.3 firmware .ipsw file and let iTunes do the rest.
NOTE : If any errors like “Â 1011 ” and ” 1015 ” are shown, ignore them.
10. Restart your iPod Touch 2G after exiting recovery mode.
That’s it! So this is how to downgrade iPod Touch 2G to 3.1.3 firmware.

Yesterday i had talked with a technical expert at Apple US on downgrading ipod touch to previous version, i.e., from ios 4.0 to 3.1.3.. According to him, Apple does not supports downgrading the OS on any device.
So try to adjust yourself with the new one :)
Hey i tried this trick , but after extracting software and verifying with apple it says The ipod “ipod” could not be restored . An unknown error occurred (3194)…PLS HELP ME !!! Thanks

I too had the 3194 error trying to go from 4.0.2 to 3.1.2 & 3.1.3 on a 2g touch MC. BUT I was able to put my hosts file back to normal and downgrade to 4.0 using the apple servers themselves. Luckily, 4.0 works with jailbreakme.com, so I was set!
So, go for jailbreakme.com method on 4.0 first, then worry about trying to get to 3.1.x after that if you still want it.
error 3194.how to solve this problem,i really need to downgrade to 3.1.3 . Tell me someone how to overcome this and to get back previous version 3.1.3. :(

I have ipod touch 2g MB model
I accidently updated to 4.1 a couple days ago and want to go back to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3. Is it possible? or can you only do it if you have 4.0?
Same thing as everyone else. 3194. I downgraded once using this same method but that was on itunes 9 and it was from 4.1 to 4.0. Can someone please help? i want a for sure way to do this.
