Earlier today we reported the news of the release of the iOS 4.1 beta 2 by Apple. Musclenerd of iPhone Dev Team has mentioned in his tweet that the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (Non MC model) could be jailbroken on iOS 4.1 beta 2 using Redsn0w 0.9.5 beta 5. Here is his tweet.

The Dev Team also mentioned the following.

If you’ve updated to 4.1beta2 on iPhone3G or iPod2G(non-MC), you can use this redsn0w from June to jailbreak. Just point it at the 4.0 IPSW (the public one, not the developer GM one).

(Yes – point it at the 4.0 IPSW even though you’re at 4.1beta2).

Don’t do this if you need the ultrasn0w carrier unlock!!

Note 1: This won’t hacktivate your iPhone3G – but for those with legit access to the 4.1beta2 this shouldn’t matter. Please don’t pirate Apple software

Note 2: If you’re at 4.1beta2 you’ll probably experience network problems after jailbreaking. Until a new version of redsn0w is released, you may need to rely on afc2 access (such as FunBox-like file browser programs) to manipulate your filesystem.

Note 3: This is recommended only for power users who can deal with the problems that will pop up as the JB apps fall further behind the beta firmwares.

If you want to jailbreak iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 beta 2, then follow the guide posted here.

NOTE : If you find Cydia as a blank icon after the iOS 4.1 beta 2 jailbreak on your iPhone 3G, then take sources and add the repo ” http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 “.

A day ago, we posted about rooting the Droid X. With the help of the instructions to root the Droid X, a member of the Android Central Forums have been able to root Motorola Devour. Small changes and edits have been made in the process of rooting Droid X to root Motorola Devour.

If you want to root Motorola Devour, then here are the instructions to do it taken from the androidcentralforums. But do it at your own risk and normal users are recommended to stay away from the Motorola Devour rooting process if you don’t have prior experience.

(Run means type the command in quotes [but not the quotes] then press the Enter key)
1.Download the attached archive and expand it to a folder you can find (eg. c:\devour_root)
2.Set up ADB (You’ll need to google this part)
3.On the phone: Home, Menu Button, Settings, Applications, Development: Make sure the “USB debugging” option is enabled/checked.
4.Status bar, USB connection: Make sure “PC Mode” is selected.
5.Open a command prompt (Windows: Start, Run, “cmd”, OK; Linux: Terminal)
6.Run “adb devices”. If you don’t see your device listed under “List of devices attached”, return to step 2 and follow the link to setup ADB (use that topic for support) and return here when “adb devices” lists your X.
7.Run “CD c:\devour_root” (or where ever you expanded the archive)
8.Run “adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk”
9.Run “adb push su /sdcard/su”
10.Run “adb push busybox /sdcard/busybox”
11.Run “adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid”
12.Run “adb shell”
13.Run “cd sqlite_stmt_journals”
14.Run “chmod 755 exploid”
15.On your phone, navigate to a screen where you can switch wifi/bluetooth on/off easily (settings, or a home screen with a widget)
16.IMMEDIATELY after executing the next step, toggle wifi or bluetooth off and back on
17.Run “./exploid” and follow directions on screen. Once this completes you’ll be back at a shell prompt.
18.Run “rootshell”. You’ll be prompted for a password.
19.Type in password “secretlol” and press Enter then you are root! (You’ll know because your prompt will now be a “#” instead of “$”)
20.Run “mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system”
21.Run “busybox cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk”
22.Run “busybox cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/su”
23.Run “busybox cp /sdcard/busybox /system/bin/busybox”
24.Run “chmod 4755 /system/bin/su”
25.Run “chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox”
26.Run “rm /system/bin/rootshell”
27.Run “exit” to drop from root to a non-root user shell (on phone still)
28.Run “exit” to drop back to your machine command prompt (instead of phone)

To Confirm root is established:
Run “adb shell”
Run “su” (now you should see the # sign which indicates you are root)
Watch your screen so you can allow Superuser root access.

You’re done! feel free to kill the bloat apps and such. (I haven’t tested killing anything yet.)

NOTE: It might be a smart idea to do “rm /system/bin/rootshell” after you have su and superuser in place as ANY program will have access to your root if you leave it (cause everyone will know the password)
NOTE: If the ‘busybox cp’ commands do not work try
“dd if=/sdcard/Superuser.apk of=/system/app/Superuser.apk”
“dd if=/sdcard/su of=/system/bin/su”
“dd if=/sdcard/busybox of=/system/bin/busybox”

Download Zip File required to root Motorola Devour from here.

If you want to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 beta, then here is a guide to do that with Sn0wbreeze 1.8. But this guide is only for the iPhone 3GSs with old bootrom as Sn0wbreeze doesn’t support the new one.
NOTE : If you have already got an unlock, don’t update to 4.1.

1. Make sure that your iPhone 3GS is already jailbroken on iOS 4.

Jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iOS 4

2. Connect your iPhone 3GS with the computer.

5. Also download Sn0wbreeze 1.8 beta from here.

6. Now start Sn0breeze 1.8.

8. Browse to the iOS 4.1 beta .ipsw file and choose it and Sn0wbreeze verifies it. Then move forward.

9. In the next screen, when Sn0wbreeze asks you ” Do you want to activate your iPhone? “, click on ” Yes “. Only if you have an officially supported carrier like AT&T, click ” No “.

10. Now Sn0wbreeze starts to cook the iOS 4.1 beta firmware. Wait till that process ends.

11. When it is finished, chose your iPhone 3GS from the devices list in iTunes.

12. Holding the Shify key, click on the Restore button.

13. Now browse to the new iOS 4.1 beta firmware cooked by Sn0wbreeze and select it.
