AT&T Inc from yesterday onwards has started shipping Amazon.com Inc’s Kindle e-reader in there retail outlet. Kindle is the first dedicated e-reader device that allows user to download ebooks, newspapers, magazine and blogs wirelessly. Amazon has two variants of kindle, one is the Wi-Fi version which cost around $139 and the 3G version costs for $189. The 6-inch 3G version device offers wide ranges of features like public notes, real page numbers and can store up to 3,500 books.
“Amazon has without question pioneered the eReader space with Kindle, and it’s exciting to not only connect this device through our network, but now offer it in our stores to readers around the country,” Glenn Lurie, president of emerging devices at AT&T, said in a statement. “As the first dedicated eReader offered in our stores, we are confident the Kindle will be an attractive addition to our in store connected devices lineup.”
As, AT&T is already providing kindle users to access internet through its 3G network and after addition of kindle into AT&T retail outlet, it is sure going to make a long run for Amazon.com Inc and AT&T. Just like smartphones or tablet, people can buy kindle from AT&T outlet without having to commit to a monthly data subscription. The people who buy kindle from AT&T can surf the internet and download books as much they want with Amazon swallowing the cost of monthly bills.
